P50

A P50 is a form used to claim a tax refund from HMRC if you’ve stopped working, have been unemployed for at least four weeks, and are not claiming certain state benefits.

What is a P50?

A P50 is an HMRC form that allows individuals to claim back income tax they may have overpaid when leaving a job.

You can use a P50 if you’ve been out of work for at least four weeks and are not receiving taxable state benefits such as Jobseeker’s Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Carer’s Allowance. The form helps HMRC calculate whether too much tax was deducted from your final pay, and if so, issue a refund. It can be completed online or by post.
